IMG_7485Composting is a key part of any sustainable, balanced garden. In the Curious Finch we practice many different forms of composting:  traditional three bin composting, composting with worms and in our hugelkultur. We also welcome volunteers to bring in kitchen waste to feed our compost bins and worms. We have built a special sifter out of wood and old bicycle parts to help us prepare the compost for spreading on the beds. We also compost the beds with (organic) liquid fertilizer which we make from various “weeds” we find and grow in the garden: comfrey, nettle, yarrow and more.

Jumping on the hugelkultur to compress logs and sticks…

With a bit of compost on top, the perfect pumpkin patch!
